Without usb cable and power adapter,press the black power button on the device,at the same time,connect device with usb cable and power adapter,until five led lights one the device is on,release the black button.Then use the USB cable connect device with computer.

Start the “GM MDI Manager”,choose recover button.Then the process is finished.

GM MDI failed to connect with wireless connection

What if GM MDI is unable to connect on Wireless interface?



· Check the wireless card is properly seated in the MDI.

· Confirm LEDs on the wireless card are lighted when the MDI is powered.

· Verify the MDI and PC are within range of the Access Point or Router.

· Verify that the PC is connected to the Access Point or Router.

· Verify signal strength of the wireless network from the PC.

· Check Firewall Settings on your PC

· USB connection takes precedence, unplug USB cable.

· Wired Ethernet connection takes precedence, unplug Ethernet cable.

· Connect to MDI using USB and run MDI Manager to verify the Wireless Settings are configured correctly. ( Refer to: How do I configure the Wireless interface?)

– Wireless interface is enabled.

-AP settings configured for proper security (authentication, encryption).

-Signal Quality (fair, good, excellent) indicates connected to AP.

-The MDI, PC and AP are on the same subnet o If using static IP, verify the IP Address and Subnet mask are correct (supplied by network administrator.

GM MDI scanner asks for software update solution

My GM MDI Multiple Diagnostic Interface with GDS2 and Tech2win software recently display update GM MDI S/W message, what’s the problem? Why does the GM MDI ask for update S/W?

The MDI software needs to be updated. This condition typically occurs when new GM MDI software is installed on the PC.
1. Connect to MDI with USB.
2. Select ‘Update MDI’
3. Start Update’ to perform a software update

How to update GM MDI software?

First, click the “MDI_Manager” icon and start the MDI Manager software, connect the PC and the MDI power by plugging the USB cable into the them and power on the MDI by plugging in the AC 12-volt adapter.  When the MDI powers up, the green LEDs will flash in succession while the MDI performs its power on self-test. Once the test detects an MDI fault, the red LED will be illuminated and if the self-test is complete, there will only has the green Power LED be illuminated. Now you are ready to go on your operation.

In the “Detected MDIs” window, the MDI will appear and the “Detected MDIs” window is the main screen for information on your MDIs. Click the “MDI” icon(below the icon, there will have the serial number) and click the button of “Update MDI”.

Then you need to select the latest version of the MDI Tester Software and click “Start Update”. Remember,during the update process, you can not unplug the MDI from the PC or remove the power from the MDI. After you see the message “The MDI will now automatically restart. Wait until you hear the ‘beep’, then the MDI is ready for use”, click “OK” and the MDI Manager software switches automatically to the MDI Explorer tab and your MDI will appear when it has finished the restart and Power On Self Test.

The MDI came ready to use with the software installed. It worked since I already had Tech2Win, GDS2 and GM MDI Manager installed on my laptop. It works extremely well and I have no problems with it. The product image at the time I order showed the cable keeper, A/C 12 volt adapter and multiple diagnostic interface user’s guide CD which is used to install the MDI manager software on your laptop. These items were not included. It also said it was Wifi but did not come with a wireless card but with a wireless interface instead. There are two versions of GM MDI interface on China market, cheaper MDI less than US$180 with only USB connection and the other more expensive with wifi wireless connection.

The product would work excellent if you had the MDI manager software already on your laptop.

It works with tis2000 and tech2win NAO.

My MDI clone works fine with tech2win and also TIS2000 software. Used it for diags and pcm flashing with no problem (through usb port only, cause wifi is unstable for programming functions).

Added a wireless card to that one too, same flawless performance.. Only issue for me is that they all have the same serial number.. So using 2 of them in the same shop with wireless would be impossible..

compared boards from a genuine to this clone, almost identical.. multiple layer pcbs, same tracers, didn’t see any difference except the board labeling was missing on the clone.
Wifi GM  mdi good, interface works online. update mdi 100%. offline not that good  for new cars.

Nissan Consult III Plus Ver.46.30 works on MDI interface as well (this is not tested by me, your are on your risk).
